Joshi Lawsuits & Over-runs

This isn’t the Edison we know any longer, and it’s certainly not the one we deserve. Crime is up 70%. Speeding is rampant, turning our neighborhoods into hazards instead of havens. And the places meant to bring us together, community centers, and senior spaces, are delayed, over budget, or fenced off entirely.

  • Toth Health and Senior Center: Closed and fenced off since 2023, now over $5.5 million with no progress. Read more here.
  • Jets Training Facility: Years behind, with spending soaring from $5 million to $17 million. Read more here. 
  • Stelton Community Center: Costs surged from $3 million to over $9 million. Still no projected opening, or what the use will be. Read more here.
  • Public Libraries: Have faced more than two years of delays.

And while these projects stall, legal troubles are mounting with costly lawsuits that erode public trust and drain taxpayer resources:

  • Wage Theft Allegations (Feb 2025): A former employee sued Edison Township for unpaid overtime, citing violations of federal and state labor laws. Read more here.
  • Manhole Injury Lawsuit (Feb 2025): A couple sued the township for injuries caused by an unsecured manhole cover on Brookfall Road. Read more here
  • Vehicle Accident Lawsuit (2023): A Metuchen woman alleges serious injury due to negligence in a crash involving the mayor. Read more here
  • Wrongful Termination Lawsuit (Jan 2023): A former township employee alleges political retaliation and a hostile work environment. Read more here.
  • Township Countersuit (Nov 2023): Edison responded by alleging fraud and unjust enrichment, claiming the employee accepted pay without service. Read more here.
  • False Arrest Allegation (January 2025): Carlton R. Brathwaite filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the Edison Police Department and the township, alleging false arrest and assault during an incident in October 2023. Brathwaite is seeking $5 million in damages. See more here
  • Police Conduct Lawsuit (May 2024): A lawsuit surfaced with video evidence of Edison police detaining a busload of immigrants, raising serious concerns about department conduct under current leadership. Read more here

  • Edison Sued Over Glendale Closing (Feb 2025):  The Superior Court of New Jersey has sanctioned the Township of Edison for failing to properly prepare Mayor Sam Joshi for a deposition in a land dispute case. Read more here.
