Meet Richard Brescher

Edison Councilman Richard Brescher grew up in Edison and graduated from JP Stevens High School in 1981.  He got married at 22, and opened up his own construction company in New York City.  Rich worked there for over 30 years and did commercial union work in every hospital, many schools, as well as for Central Park, Sony, Chase, and IBM. He then retired with pride, passing his company to the people he had trained for so many years.

From his school days, to raising a family with his wife June, every part of his life has been rooted in this community. Rich raised his two sons in Edison in the home he grew up in and sent them to the schools he attended. Where he played baseball as a child, he now coached his sons and other local children. Now, Rich is a grandfather with two amazing grandchildren.

His retirement closed one chapter, but it opened another – the call to public service. Rich ran for the Board of Education to give back to the town that gave him and his family so much. He wanted to save money for the taxpayers – his neighbors. As an elected member of the Edison School Board, he brought decades of experience in construction, insurance, and finance to the table. Working with determination and focus, Rich helped reform the state funding formula by lobbying Trenton, he managed to increase Edison’s annual education aid from $15 million to $90 million. Through a comprehensive audit, he also uncovered $4 million in savings. Those savings were redirected back to our schools and students.

Building on that momentum, he continued his public service on the Town Council – now in his second term, collaborating with the previous administration to ensure every taxpayer dollar was spent wisely and responsibly, delivering real improvements without waste.

Now Richard wants to use those skills to help you and Edison as your Mayor.

He is a neighbor, a father, and a husband. Rich is someone who built a life here, just like you. Richard says, “Edison has given me more than I could ever put into words, and for that, I am forever grateful. Now, I just want to make sure this town takes care of the people who built it, the families growing up in it, and the future still ahead of it. That is why I’m running for Mayor of Edison. Simple as that.”
